The Tasmanian Bushfire Season Outlook released today confirms that, despite the dry winter, the majority of the state will experience ‘normal fire potential’ for the upcoming fire season.
The last thing anyone wants is for a fire to threaten themselves, their family or their property, which is why the Hodgman Liberal Government has invested $55 million to significantly increase fuel reduction burning across Tasmania since the election. This spring the Tasmania Fire Service will continue to take every opportunity to conduct fuel reduction burns to reduce the bushfire risk even further.
Today’s outlook is a testament to the Program’s success, but we know more needs to be done to make Tasmania an even safer place to live and raise a family.
That is why a re-elected majority Liberal Government has set a target to decrease the bushfire risk to Tasmanian lives and properties by 33 per cent by 2022.
Information on how to best prepare your property can be found at www.fire.tas.gov.au, and I urge the Tasmanian public to heed the advice of our emergency services and ensure they are as well prepared as possible in the event of a bushfire.
