The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of our brave firefighters across the state who risk their lives to protect us.
Today, I was pleased to attend a ceremony to celebrate the graduation of 15 new firefighters.
The new firefighters will bolster the ranks of the Tasmania Fire Service and will be posted right around the state, with six in the north, five in the north-west and four in the south.
The Government is keeping Tasmanians safer from the threat of bushfires, and we have committed more resources to the TFS to ensure we are better prepared than ever before should dangerous fires occur.
This includes our investment of $55 million for our Fuel Reduction Program and the rollout of 90 new fire trucks.
We have also set a target to decrease the bushfire risk to Tasmanian lives and properties by 33 per cent by 2022.
I congratulate the 15 men and women who have joined the firefighting ranks today and wish them all the best in their careers with the Tasmania Fire Service.
