It was my pleasure today to officially open the brand new fire station for the Mayfield brigade on the east coast.
Fires have the potential to end lives and rip families apart, and our brave firefighters deserve our thanks for ensuring that if the worst does happen, they will be there in a flash to ensure community safety.
This modern facility is a result of a long consultation, planning and construction process involving the Tasmania Fire Service, local land owners, Glamorgan/Spring Bay Council and the various other stakeholders.
Their cooperative approach has resulted in a building that takes into account not only the best interests of the local emergency response crews and TFS management, but most importantly, the main stakeholders in the area – the local community.
Today’s opening is another demonstration of the Government’s commitment to keeping Tasmanian communities safe from the threat of dangerous fires, in addition to other initiatives such as the rollout of 90 new fire trucks across Tasmania and our $55 million Fuel Reduction Program.
I welcome the Mayfield brigade to their new facility and wish them well for the future.
