It was my pleasure today to officially open the brand new fire station for the Collinsvale brigade.
With the old station being built in 1967, it was past time for the station to be upgraded to ensure the brigade has a more modern facility. The new station will house a medium tanker and a light tanker in two engine bays, while also including upgraded facilities for our brave firefighters.
Tasmanians know full well the devastating impact that fires can have on our community, and the Collinsvale brigade has played an active role in preparing the local community in fire preparation and prevention including property assessments, fuel reduction and interactive school visits.
It’s another demonstration of the Government’s commitment to keeping Tasmanian communities safe from the threat of dangerous fires, and will complement other initiatives such as the rollout of 90 new fire trucks across Tasmania and our $55 million Fuel Reduction Program.
All Tasmanians owe a debt of gratitude to our firefighters for keeping our community safe, and I welcome the Collinsvale brigade to their new facility and wish them well for the future.
