Being out on the water is part of the Tasmanian way of life, so it’s important to keep safe.
With a new Australian standard for life jackets becoming compulsory from 2020, the Hodgman Liberal Government has launched a voucher scheme to help boaties replace old life jackets.
The $100,000 incentive scheme, being run by Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST), will mean recreational boaters can get $20 off when purchasing a new standard life jacket at local retailers.
A life jacket is the first defence should the worst happen when undertaking activities on the water, and with Tasmania’s high proportion of recreational boaters we want to ensure everybody complies with the standard required to keep them safe.
Protecting the Tasmanian way of life is part of our Plan to Build Your Future.
I encourage all recreational boaters to check their life jackets for compliance with the new standard, as it’s a small investment to make to ensure maximum protection for your family and friends.
