I am very pleased the Government’s legislation to better protect off-duty police officers has today passed the House of Assembly, despite Labor joining their Green allies and voting against.
The law already provides for guaranteed jail for people who seriously assault on-duty police officers, and today marks another important step in having the same protection extended to off-duty officers.
For Labor to side with the Greens against this legislation and against community expectations is a disgusting slap in the face to every single police officer who works hard every day protecting the community, and even more so after they savagely cut over 100 police officers from the frontline during the Labor-Green Government.
It’s confirmation yet again that Labor are soft on crime and will side with the Greens at every opportunity.
